There are so many different ways to make this recipe but my kids like it just like this. They wouldn't want it any other way. Stick to your ribs!!

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. ground beef-cooked
  • 1 lb. ground sausage-cooked
  • 2-3 cans whole kernel corn-drained
  • cheese slices
  • mashed potatoes

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 375. After burger and sausage are cooked, mix together and spread in the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Place cheese slices over the top of meat mixture (use cheese to your taste). Pour corn over the top and spread evenly. Then top corn with cheese slices. Spread mashed potatoes over the top and you may choose to top with more cheese or not (does not matter). Bake in oven for approx. 1 hr. or until edges are bubbly and potatoes are starting to brown.
  2. This is a heavy meal. Stick to your ribs!!

for my split family, I split my shepherd's pie. One end has frozen mixed veggies; the other end, either no veggies or corn. Top everythng with shredded mexican blend cheese! Also, no sausage.

I use "corn off the cobb" or "frozen corn", beef very low in fat, "85% to 90%-cooked in onions and garlic, new potatoes, (the little fresh red ones-so flavorful!) and spritz "I can't believe its not butter", on the mashed potatoes and corn. My family LOVES this recipe! As do thier friends and our relatives. It's fun and easy!

I happened to be making a shepherd's pie today--I think because it is cool and rainy.
I use shredded b.b.q. pork, lean ground beef and ground turkey, and somee b.b.q. sauce to let the meat simmer in. Today I added some b.b.q. beans to the meat mixture (trying to sneak in some fiber). I will also top my meat mixture with cheese, corn then mashed cheesey potatoes. I like to top mine with French's french fried onion rings (in the can).
