How to make it

  • In a large slow cooker...
  • Pour tomatoes,paste and sauce.
  • Add soda and stir well.
  • In frying pan,add olive oil,onions,garlic,green peppers and meat.
  • When all these are slightly browned,pour contents into the slow cooker.
  • Cover.
  • Set on low and simmer for 8 hours.
  • Add water as needed(a little white wine would be nice as well)
  • After the 8 hours,remove the meat,and bay leaves.
  • Add the herbs,seasonings,sugar and cheese.
  • Cover and continue to simmer on low setting until sauce reaches the consistency that you like.
