Retired and Still Loving It!

My last official day of work was June 12th. It was a very different sort of last day than what I had ever envisioned. Covid turned what I always thought would be a day full of fanfare, hugs, cake in the lounge, and a big send-off with tears (yes, I was sure there would be tears) into a day where I simply picked up my box of things and walked out the door. Everyone was working from home and only coming in to the school on our "assigned" days so we were never there with the other office workers. The principal had been there earlier on in that day but he had left for a meeting. A week later the office people celebrated with me at a restaurant. In reality, it turned out I preferred my Covid retirement. My true friends managed to get together with me in small groups and I got to spend more time with each person that way.

Now it's almost Christmas and winter weather has pretty much arrived here in NE Ohio. I've had some people tell me this is when I would be wishing I was working because there is nothing to do in the winter. Hmmm....I've kept myself busy and I know once restrictions are lifted from Covid19 I will be even busier. I haven't been able to meet up with friends for breakfast or lunch. In fact, these past two weeks I have been in quarantine, as were my parents, daughter and Son-in-law. My SIL's twin brother was at my daughter's house to help install a new water heater. Since I was having my parents and them over for lunch, I told them to bring him along. The next day he woke up with a sore throat and fever. Yep, you guessed it, he had Covid 19. Luckily for him his symptoms were extremely mild. My parents and myself were very lucky and did not get it. My daughter and son-in-law were not so lucky. My son-in-law's symptoms were as mild as his twin's were. My poor daughter got every symptom there was. But, she was very fortunate and did not require medical treatment from a hospital or doctor. She just stayed home and rested. She is on the mend and feeling better. Thank God.

So, what do I do when it's cold and nasty and I'm not able to get outside? I work puzzles, read, clean and organize all those closets and drawers that were ignored for 35 years. I bake. I cook. I eat. Annie and I take walks every day, if even just the short 1/4 mile walk to the mailbox. I've had many video chats with my grandson and son. That little guy is growing and learning so much. He knows who I am and blows me kisses and "hugs" the phone. My first trip when restrictions are lifted is going to be out west.
