Pasta Alla Puttanesca

Pasta alla Puttanesca is a traditional pasta dish is from Naples, This dish if famed for it’s name which translates as “Pasta the way a whore would make it”, while there are many theories why it is named as such the most likely that I have heard is that it is a quick, cheap yet tasty meal that could easily be prepared by Napoli’s ladies of the night!

Pizzoccheri Valtellinesi

About one and half year ago’ my husband and I went to visit a friend in northern Italy, precisely in the lake Como area. She took us out to dinner and we tasted for the first time this dish. Since then my husband has been asking me repeatedly to make “the pasta that we ate at Como’s lake” (that’s how he calls it since he can’t remember “pizzoccheri”). I am from the south of Italy and never tasted or made the pizzoccheri before that day but I decided to try. I got the recipe from the web and here it is translated in English. We both loved them! As you can realize this is not something that you can eat often as it has 264 calories per 100 grams, this means that a small portion of 250 gr (a little less than half a pound) is 660 calories, but once in a while won’t harm you.

Struffoli

This is the most typical Neapolitan Christmas dessert dish, in Naples is not Christmas if you don’t have your share of struffoli. I think the reason why they are made only at Christmas is that you don’t really want to spend all that time making struffoli more than once a year. I made them in USA for the first time last Christmas and I wish I never did, all the friends that tried them asked me to make some more, I ended up making struffoli for three days in a row!!!!

Briosce Rustica Rich Bread With Cheese And Meats

This is a very rich and tasty bread. It’s very appreciated at parties, since it can be eaten without a plate or a fork and it tastes better than regular bread. Very much appreciated by children (my advice is to avoid pepper if you will serve it to the little ones). I made it for Easter and brought it to my sister in law, we had it as an appetizer and snacked with it during the day. My husband family loved it!

Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina

This recipe is original from the Campania region (from which I come), in fact “alla sorrentina” means “Sorrento style” being Sorrento a wonderful city on the coast south of Amalfi.
