Old-fashioned One Pot Bean Dinner

This is one of those old-fashioned, "church supper" kind of meals. It appeared in the recipe booklet that came with the first slow cookers. It's very rich, so serve with simple sidedishes, like coleslaw, bread, or a salad. We also like this one served over a baked potato!

Traditional Scottish Oatcakes With Butter

This is a traditional and old Scottish Oatcake recipe, not to be confused with the stuff they serve in the North of England.

Birdys Awesome Pancakes

I love these pancakes. They are light and fluffy and leave a good taste in your mouth. Might be too light for real syrup but good old Mrs. Butterworth's make these shine.

Make sure you use "real" butter. Do not substitute.

Antique Coffee

Based on a recipe from, A Columbian Autograph Souvenir Cookery Book, for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago. The instructions may sound strange, but the result is superior, crystal clear, and very fragrant. It would probably be superb in a camp-style coffee pot.

Zoes Mums Boiled Mayo

Mum's mum's recipe for old-fashioned boiled mayonnaise. Im not a huge fan of the regular out-the-jar type mayo, but this stuff is the shizzzz. Perfect for cold potato & egg salads, or an a chicken sangwich. I just had a go at making it for the first time just now, thinking it'd be tricky but it came out MEGA PERFECT. No lumps or anything. and its CHEAP and you always have the stuff on hand and seriously takes like 5 minutes. Its the best, Jerry, the best. Make some now.

Slow Cooker Blueberry Grunt

I don't know if you ever see a grunt anywhere but here in New England. This one is *seriously* old-fashioned; now we're talking Colonial times. It is stewed fruit topped with a drop biscuit dough that steams like a dumpling. Even in its traditional form, the topping never browns, so the slow cooker is perfect for this recipe. "Grunt" refers to the sound the fruit makes while cooking (I know, not very elegant!). This is also good made with blackberries or a combination of berries and nectarines. If you use half blackberries and half blueberries, call it black and blue grunt.
