Chicken With Sauerkraut Fillingslow Cooker

A "filling" recipe from my MIL. They always called stuffing "filling" and my husband still does. To me stuffing is on the side and made of cornbread. To Grossmom, it was a sauerkraut based, raisin and caraway filling served on the side after cooking on the stove all day. I do this in the crock pot on busy work days. The mashed potatoes are a must; they taste great with the sauerkraut "filling".

Pennsylvania Dutch Corn And Chicken Soup

I hesitate to call this Amish, since as far as I know, the Amish in Indiana don't make this. We discovered it right after we got here. If you love corn, you'll love this. I am told you really have to make this with fresh corn, which I believe, because the milky sweet corn juice makes this soup almost creamy. One of the women at the local Amish farmer's market said if you don't have fresh corn, you can make it with frozen or canned and cream corn. This is excellent stuff. Sorry. I made it last night, but I didn't take any pictures. I was too hungry to snarf it all down.We had it with rolls I bought from the Amish farmer's market (where I bought the corn).

This is an old-school pennsylvania dutch tradition, and can be served at breakfast to dunk coffe... or after dinner for a simple dessert. You may not have heard of it-- think coffee cake but heavier. Don't be scared by the ingredients... it's delicious!
