Real Chinese Sweet Sour Chicken
Ingredients
1 tbsp chile paste
1 tsp vegetable oil
3/4 c sweet & sour sauce
1/2 lb ground turkey breast
14 sheets phyllo dough
1 c sliced cabbage
1 tbsp white wine
1/2 c shredded carrots
4 tsps vegetable oil
2 green onion, finely sliced
1 tsp cornstarch
Directions
Step #1 Heat 1 tsp oil in 10-inch nonstick skillet over med-heat/flame.
Step #2 Cook turkey, cabbage, stirring frequently, carrot & onions in oil about 5 mins, until turkey is no longer pink & vegetables are crisp-tender.
Step #3 Stir in chili paste.
Step #4 Mix wine & cornstarch; stir in theto turkey mixture.
Step #5 Cook uncovered, stirring every once in awhile, until slightly thickened.
Step #6 Heat oven to 375 degreesF.
Step #7 Cut stack of phyllo sheets crosswise in half.
Step #8 Cover with waxed paper, then with damp towel to prevent them from drying out.
Step #9 Place 1 half-sheet of phyllo on flat surface.
Step #10 Brush with small amount of oil.
Step #11 Top with second half-sheet of phyllo.
Step #12 Place about 2 tbsps turkey mixture on short end of phyllo; shape mixture into about 4-inch log.
Step #13 Roll up phyllo & turkey mixture.
Step #14 Twist phyllo 1 inch from each end to make firecracker shape.
Step #15 Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Step #16 Repeat with remaining phyllo & turkey mixture.
Step #17 Brush firecrackers with remaining oil.
Step #18 Bake 18 to 22 mins or until phyllo is crisp & golden brown.
Step #19 Serve with sweet-and-sour sauce.
