Chocolate Almond Bars Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 1 1/2 c semisweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 3/4 c cold butter or margarine
  • 2 c sliced almonds, toasted
  • 2/3 c sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 In a bowl, mix the flour & sugar; cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Step #2 Press into a greased 13-in.
  • Step #3 x 9-in.
  • Step #4 x 2-in.
  • Step #5 baking pan.
  • Step #6 Bake at 350 degrees F for 18-20 mins or until lightly browned.
  • Step #7 Cool on wire rack.
  • Step #8 In a saucepan, mix the milk & 1 c chocolate chips.
  • Step #9 Cook & stir over low heat/flame until chips are melted.
  • Step #10 Remove from the heat; cool slightly.
  • Step #11 Stir in egg, almonds & extract.
  • Step #12 Spread over crust.
  • Step #13 Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 mins or until a toothpicks inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Step #14 Cool on a wire rack.
  • Step #15 In a microwave, melt shortening & remaining chips; drizzle over top.
  • Step #16 Cut into bars.
