Mock Tahini Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c brown sesame seeds, either toasted (white sesame seeds will do in a pinch) or untoasted sesame seeds (white sesame seeds will do in a pinch) .
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil (the toasted sesame oil will give the sesame seeds "depth", especially if you choose not to toast the) .
  • 2-3 tbsps regular sesame oil

  • Step #1 If you have the time, lightly toast the sesame seeds & allow this to cool then proceed.

  • Step #6 Add more oil if necessary to aid in mixing.
  • Step #7 There definitely wil be whole seeds remaining no matter how well you mix, & that's okay.
  • Step #8 Mixture will be very oily & not very smooth.
  • Step #9 (Remember, this is an emergency!) ;).
  • Step #10 If time permits, allow tahini to set for 30 mins.
  • Step #11 NOTE: If you don't have any time available to toast or mix the seeds then omit those steps & add the whole seeds & oil directly into your recipe, depending of course on what you are preparing.
  • Step #12 It's a judgment call.
  • Step #13 Very important to be sure your sesame seeds are fresh before starting this recipe! If not, your tahini will taste rancid.
  • Step #14 ALWAYS keep sesame seeds put in the fridged! Refrigerate any leftover tahini.
