Spicy Orange Tofu Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced .
  • 1/4 c fresh cilantro, coarsely sliced .
  • 1 tbsp fresh gingerroot, minced .
  • 1/4 c canola oil .
  • 4 tsps dark sesame oil .
  • 1 lb firm tofu .
  • 1-2 fresh red chili pepper, seeded & cut into strips .
  • 1/3 c soy sauce .
  • 1/4 c rice vinegar .
  • 2 green onions, cut into 1-inch strips .
  • 1 c fresh orange juice

Directions
  • Step #1 Place tofu block onto short-side & slice into 4 square wedges (they will be thin).
  • Step #2 Lay the tofu flat again, & cut the block diagonally to make 8 triangles.
  • Step #3 Without separating the pieces, place tofu on a plate.
  • Step #4 Cover up with a paper towel, & place a heavy skillet on top.
  • Step #5 Set aside for 30 mins to drain excess water from the tofu.
  • Step #6 In a medium bowl, garlic, oils, vinegar, soy sauce, whisk together the orange juice, ginger.
  • Step #7 Separate the pressed tofu pieces, & arrange in a baking dish in a single layer.
  • Step #8 Cover up with the marinade, & sprinkle with the green onion, chili strips & cilantro.
  • Step #9 Cover up with plastic wrap, & put in the fridge for at least 30 mins & up to overnight.
  • Step #10 Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step #11 Pour off some of the marinade, so the tofu is covered halfway.
  • Step #12 Bake for 40 to 45 mins, without turning, until the tofu is golden & most of the marinade has been absorbed.
