Texas Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon .
  • 1/2 c milk .
  • 4 tbsps shortening .
  • 2 tbsps sugar .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 3 tbsps butter, softened, divided .
  • 4 tsps baking powder .
  • 2 c flour .
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten .
  • 4 tbsps brown sugar, divided

Directions
  • Step #1 Sift flour before measuring.
  • Step #2 Add sugar, baking powder & salt & sift again into a large mixing bowl.
  • Step #3 Cut shortening into dry ingredients.
  • Step #4 In a small bowl, then add mixture, mix together egg & milk, a small amount at a time, to flour/shortening mix.
  • Step #5 Handle lightly.
  • Step #6 When dough is formed, roll out on floured board to 1/8 inch thickness.
  • Step #7 Spread dough with 1 tbsp of the softened butter, sprinkle with 2 tbsp of the brown sugar & the 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
  • Step #8 Roll tightly, beginning at the edge nearest you.
  • Step #9 Cut into 2-inch slices.
  • Step #10 Cream together the remaining 2 tbsp butter & 2 tbsp brown sugar.
  • Step #11 Spread onto the bottom of a heavy baking pan that will hold the slices fairly close together.
  • Step #12 Place slices into the pan & bake this at 375 for 18-20 mins.
  • Step #13 Because this recipes does not have a topping, you can make you own.
  • Step #14 I make one by mixing melted butter with powdered sugar.
  • Step #15 Sometimes I add raisins and/or sliced nuts.
