Dal Capsicum Recipe

Ingredients
  • 6 tbsps oil .
  • 1 pinch asafetida powder .
  • 2 tbsps bengal gram dal, split (chana dal) .
  • 4-5 curry leaves .
  • 1/2 c split peas .
  • salt, to taste .
  • 2-3 medium capsicums .
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds .
  • 3-4 red chilies, whole

Directions
  • Step #1 Soak the toor dal (or split peas) & chana dal in two c of water for half an hr.
  • Step #2 Wash, halve, deseed & finely chop the capsicums.
  • Step #3 Wash & pat dry the curry leaves.
  • Step #4 Remove the stems from the whole red chillies.
  • Step #5 Grind the soaked dals (or dal & split peas) along with the whole red chillies, asafoetida & add a little salt.
  • Step #6 In a pan heat two tbsps of oil, add the sliced capsicum & sauté until the capsicum has softened.
  • Step #7 Set aside.
  • Step #8 In a kadai heat the remaining four tbsps of oil, add the mustard seeds & curry leaves.
  • Step #9 Once they begin to crackle, add the ground dals (or dal & split peas) & stir.
  • Step #10 Cook until the liquid has evaporated & the dals (or dal & split peas) have turned golden brown.
  • Step #11 Add the sautéed capsicum, mix well & serve hot.
