Step #1 For Pudding: Mix sugar flour & salt together with a whisk.
Step #2 Add milk & microwave until thickened, stirring every once in awhile.
Step #3 Quickly add egg yolks, whisking away so they don't cook too fast.
Step #4 Cook another min or until thick.
Step #5 Add butter & vanilla, whisk again until smooth.
Step #6 You may make this on the stove if you don't like the microwave idea, but be sure to stir so the bottom doesn't burn.
Step #7 Cover up with plastic wrap (so a film will not form on top) & let cool.
Step #8 For Crust: Stir salt into flour.
Step #9 Measure shortening & cut into flour with a fork or pastry mixer until the dough texture is like peas.
Step #10 Add a few drops of green food color to 1/4 c water & mix.
Step #11 Add & stir this to flour mixture until ingredients hold together & color turns green.
Step #12 Roll dough out onto a floured surface.
Step #13 Divide into ten balls.
Step #14 Roll each ball into a circle & add 1/4 c or less of filling in the center of the circle.
Step #15 Fold dough in half over filling & crimp edges.
Step #16 Don't get any filling on the edge or it might leak out & ruin the pie.
Step #17 Cook in hot (Crisco) shortening at least an inch deep in your skillet, set at 375 degrees, frying about 4 mins per side.
Step #18 Important: use a pancake turner or other utensil that will hold the pie, as you don't want it to crack & leak filling when you cook it or you will have a mess.
Step #19 Be careful with the hot grease, it will boil up if the filling leaks.
Step #20 For glaze: In a large-ish mixing bowl, mix all glaze ingredients until smooth.
Step #21 While pies are still warm, dip them into glaze.
Step #22 Allow pies to drip on wire racks until cool.
