Crock Pot Chulnt Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 (12 oz) can garbanzo beans .
  • 1 (1 oz) envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix .
  • 3 c hot water (extra as needed) .
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes .
  • salt & pepper .
  • 1 1/2 c great northern beans .
  • 1 lb beef short ribs (or flanken with bones) .
  • 2 lbs stew beef chunks .
  • 1 (12 oz) can tomato paste .
  • 1/2-3/4 c barley .
  • 3/4 c white grape juice or apple juice

Directions
  • Step #1 Clean & place great northern bean in water to soak for approximately 2 hrs.
  • Step #2 About 30 mins before soaking time is complete, sprinkle salt & pepper on beef.
  • Step #3 In a skillet, brown the beef on all sides.
  • Step #4 Place great northern bean on bottom of 4-6 quart crock pot.
  • Step #5 Place browned meat over the beans.
  • Step #6 Dissolve the bouillon cubes & soup mix in the 3 c hot water.
  • Step #7 Pour the broth & grape juice over the beans & beef.
  • Step #8 Add as much hot or boiling water as needed to completely cover both beans & beef.
  • Step #9 Add 1-2 c more hot water.
  • Step #10 Let cook on low for 5-6 hrs until beans are tender.
  • Step #11 Mix in tomato paste, drained garbanzo beans & barley.
  • Step #12 Cook for 2-3 more hrs until barley is tender.
  • Step #13 You may need to add more water if barley isn't tender & cook for 30 more mins.
