Iowa-style Loosemeat Sandwiches Recipe

Ingredients
  • Loosemeat .
  • 1 (12 oz) bottle beer (not light beer) .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • prepared yellow mustard .
  • 1 tsp sugar .
  • 2 tsps prepared yellow mustard .
  • 1 lb twice- ground beef .
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper .
  • pickles .
  • 1 tbsp dried onion flakes .
  • Sandwich .
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted if desired .
  • sliced fresh onions

Directions
  • Step #1 In a skillet, brown the beef over medium-high heat, stirring to crumble; drain in a colander.
  • Step #2 Return beef to pan; stir in the onion flakes, sugar, mustard, pepper, salt, & beer.
  • Step #3 Simmer, partially covered, over med-heat/flame until liquid is evaporated (about 30 mins.
  • Step #4 To make a loosemeat sandwich: spoon beef into buns; serve as soon as possible with sliced onion, mustard, & pickles.
  • Step #5 Make sure everyone has a spoon so they can scoop up any stray beef that escapes.
