Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/3 c margarine
  • 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 c sour milk
  • 2 tbsps orange liqueur
  • 2 (1 oz) squares unsweetened chocolate, sliced
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries
  • 2 (1 oz) squares semisweet chocolate, sliced
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  •  
  • 1 (16 oz) package frozen whipped topping, thawed

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 400F degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Grease & flour 2 (9 inch) pans.
  • Step #3 In the top of a double boiler, stirring every once in awhile, heat unsweetened chocolate, until chocolate is melted & smooth.
  • Step #4 Remove from heat & allow this to cool to lukewarm.
  • Step #5 In a large bowl, baking soda, mix flour, baking powder, salt & sugar.
  • Step #6 Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step #7 Blend in sour milk & melted unsweetened chocolate.
  • Step #8 Divide batter into prepared pans.
  • Step #9 Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 mins, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Step #10 Allow to cool.
  • Step #11 Sprinkle top cakes with orange liqueur.
  • Step #12 Reserve 8 to 10 strawberries & slice the rest.
  • Step #13 Place one cake on a serving plate, top this with half of the sliced strawberries & half of whipped topping.
  • Step #14 Cover with second layer, top this with remaining strawberries & whipped topping.
  • Step #15 Garnish with whole strawberries.
  • Step #16 In the top of a double boiler, stirring every once in awhile, heat semisweet chocolate, until chocolate is melted & smooth.
  • Step #17 Drizzle over the strawberries.
