Classic Stuffed Turkey Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Melted butter
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 2 tsps rubbed sage
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can chicken broth
  • 2 celery ribs, sliced
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1/2 lb fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 (14 lb) turkey
  • 12 c unseasoned stuffing cubes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 c minced fresh parsley
  • Warm water

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large skillet, saute the onions, celery & mushrooms in butter until tender.
  • Step #2 Add broth & seasonings; mix well.
  • Step #3 Place bread cubes in a large bowl; add mushroom mixture & toss to coat.
  • Step #4 Stir in enough warm water to reach desired moistness.
  • Step #5 Just before baking, loosely stuff turkey.
  • Step #6 Place any remaining stuffing in a greased baking dish; cover & put in the fridge until ready to bake.
  • Step #7 Skewer turkey openings; tie drumsticks together with kitchen string.
  • Step #8 Place breast side up on a rack in a roasting pan.
  • Step #9 Brush with melted butter.
  • Step #10 Bake turkey, uncovered, at 325F degrees for 3-3/4 to 4-1/2 hrs or until a meat thermometer reads 180 for the turkey & 165 for the stuffing, basting every once in awhile with pan drippings.
  • Step #11 (Cover loosely with foil if turkey browns too quickly.
  • Step #12 ) Bake extra stuffing, covered, for 30-40 mins.
  • Step #13 Uncover; bake 10 mins longer or until lightly browned.
  • Step #14 Cover turkey with foil & let this stand for 20 mins before removing stuffing & carving.
  • Step #15 If desired, thicken pan drippings for gravy.
  • Step #16 Yield: 12 servings (10 c stuffing).
