Garden Herb Braid Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 (1/4 oz) packages fast rise yeast .
  • 1/8 tsp dried parsley flakes .
  • 1 egg .
  • 3/4 tsp dried thyme .
  • 3/4 tsp parsley flakes .
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt .
  • 3/4 tsp crushed sage .
  • 1/8 tsp dried rosemary, crushed .
  • 4-4 1/2 c all-purpose flour .
  • 1/8 tsp dried oregano .
  • 1/8 tsp dried marjoram .
  • 1/2 c water .
  • 1/8 tsp dried thyme .
  • 3/4 tsp dried marjoram .
  • 1/4 c butter, cubed .
  • 3/4 tsp dried oregano .
  • Topping .
  • 3/4 c milk .
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted .
  • 1/8 tsp dried basil .
  • 1/8 tsp crushed sage .
  • 3/4 tsp dried rosemary, crushed .
  • 3/4 tsp dried basil .
  • 3 tbsps sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large mixing bowl, yeast, sugar, mix 1-1/2 c flour, salt & herbs.
  • Step #2 In a saucepan, heat the milk, water & butter to 120*-130*F.
  • Step #3 Add to dry ingredients; beat just until moistened.
  • Step #4 Add egg; beat until smooth.
  • Step #5 Stir in just enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  • Step #6 Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth & elastic, about 4-6 mins.
  • Step #7 Cover up & let rest for about 10 mins.
  • Step #8 Divide dough into thirds.
  • Step #9 Shape each portion into a 15 inch rope.
  • Step #10 Place ropes on greased baking sheet & braid; pinch ends to seal & tuck under.
  • Step #11 Cover up; let rise until doubled, about 20 mins.
  • Step #12 Bake at 375*F.
  • Step #13 for 25-30 mins or until golden brown.
  • Step #14 Brush with melted butter.
  • Step #15 Combine herbs; sprinkle it over bread.
  • Step #16 Then remove this from pan to a wire rack to cool.
  • Step #17 Yield: 1 loaf (16 slices).
