Fried Turnip Patties Recipe

Ingredients
  • salt .
  • 1/4 c oil, for shallow frying .
  • 2 1/2 lbs turnips, quartered .
  • 1/4 c finely sliced onions or 1/8 c dehydrated onion .
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala .
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder .
  • water, to cover Turnips for boiling .
  • 1 tbsp oil

Directions
  • Step #1 If you are using sliced onions, fry them until crisp in 1 tbsp oil, then coarsely grind them.
  • Step #2 Set onions aside.
  • Step #3 If using dehydrated onions, just set aside.
  • Step #4 DO NOT REHYDRATE! Place quartered turnips in a deep pot & cover with water.
  • Step #5 Boil them until soft.
  • Step #6 Remove the turnips from the water and, using a piece of muslin, squeeze out as much water as you can.
  • Step #7 Discard all of the liquid.
  • Step #8 Mash the turnips, chili powder, adding the onions, salt, & garam masala.
  • Step #9 Mix well to mix.
  • Step #10 Divide into 8 pieces & flatten into patty shape with wet hands & pat dry.
  • Step #11 Fry in ¼ c oil until golden brown.
  • Step #12 Serve hot.
