Ivy House Indiana Sugar Cream Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsps cornstarch .
  • Garnish .
  • 1 (9 inch) flaky pie crusts, baked & cooled (there are a few recipes already posted, #20984) .
  • fresh whipped cream .
  • 1/2 c unsalted butter, cut into pieces .
  • Filling .
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract .
  • 1/4 c cornstarch, plus .
  • 2 1/4 c whole milk .
  • 1 c sugar .
  • 1 pinch salt (big pinch)

Directions
  • Step #1 In a saucepan, milk, butter, mix the sugar, cornstarch, & salt.
  • Step #2 Place pan over med-heat/flame & cook, stirring or whisking continuously for 5-7 mins or until the mixture starts to boil.
  • Step #3 Lower heat slightly & continue to cook, rapidly whisking for about 2 mins.
  • Step #4 Remove pan from heat & stir in the vanilla.
  • Step #5 Pour the filling into the cooled pie shell, smooth the top.
  • Step #6 Place the pie on a wire rack; let cool completely, then put in the fridge at least 2 hrs or overnight.
  • Step #7 Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
