Creamed Urad Daal Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp garam masala .
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder .
  • 1 sliced onion .
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander .
  • 2/3 c whole cream .
  • 2 tbsps ground cumin .
  • 1 green chilies, sliced .
  • 1/2 c oil .
  • 1 c Urad Dal (black legume, available in Indian Grocery stores) .
  • 2 inches sliced fresh ginger .
  • 2 sliced garlic cloves .
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Bring daal to boil in 6 c water, lower heat & let simmer for 1 hr or until daal feels soft.
  • Step #2 Drain daal & reserve liquid.
  • Step #3 Blend onion, garlic, ginger & chilli together in mixer to form a paste, or finely chop them together with a knife.
  • Step #4 Heat oil in frying pan & fry onion mixture over high heat, stirring constantly, until golden brown.
  • Step #5 Add cumin & corriander & fry for 2 mins.
  • Step #6 Add the daal, salt, chilli powder & garam masala.
  • Step #7 Pour 300F mel or 1 1/4 c of reserved liquid into pan, bring to a boil.
  • Step #8 Reduce heat & let simmer for 10 mins.
  • Step #9 Just before serving stir in the the cream & let simmer 2 mins to heat through.
