Ingredients
  • 2 tbsps butter, softened
  • 1 c water
  • 1/2 c sliced almonds, toasted
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • FILLING:
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 c confectioners' sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c butter (no substitutes)
  • 1/2 c butter (no substitutes)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cold water
  • 3 eggs
  • TOPPING:

Directions
  • Step #1 In a bowl, cut butter into the flour until crumbly.
  • Step #2 Sprinkle top with water; toss with a fork until moist enough to shape into a ball.
  • Step #3 Divide in half.
  • Step #4 On a floured surface, roll each portion into 1 12-in.
  • Step #5 x 3-in.
  • Step #6 rectangle.
  • Step #7 Place on greased baking sheets.
  • Step #8 In a saucepan, bring water & butter to a boil.
  • Step #9 Add flour & salt all at once; stir until a smooth ball forms.
  • Step #10 Remove from the heat; let this stand 5 mins.
  • Step #11 Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Step #12 Add extract; beat until smooth.
  • Step #13 Spread over dough.
  • Step #14 Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hr or until puffed & golden brown.
  • Step #15 Cool on pans for 10 mins.
  • Step #16 Combine sugar, butter, water & vanilla until smooth; spread over warm puffs.
  • Step #17 Sprinkle top with almonds.
  • Step #18 Refrigerate leftovers.
