Greek Style Hamburger Pitas Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c plain yogurt .
  • 1 tsp basil .
  • 2 lbs ground pork (or lamb or combination) .
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced .
  • 1/2 c sliced fresh cilantro .
  • salt & pepper .
  • 6 pita bread .
  • 1/2 c sliced green onions .
  • 1 cucumber, sliced .
  • 3/4 tsp sugar .
  • 1 tsp oregano .
  • 2 sliced garlic cloves .
  • 1 tsp grated lemon peel

Directions
  • Step #1 In medium bowl, 1/2 of the garlic, basil, mix pork, oregano, 4 tsps yogurt, salt & pepper.
  • Step #2 Mix together well.
  • Step #3 Shape into 6 oval-shaped patties.
  • Step #4 Grill, broil or fry until cooked through, approximately 11-14 mins.
  • Step #5 In small bowl, lemon peel, mix together remaining yogurt, cilantro, green onion, sugar & remaining garlic.
  • Step #6 To serve, put the patty in the pita pocket & top this with yogurt mixture, placing tomato & cucumber on top.
