Apple Torte Recipe

Ingredients
  • 10 c thinly sliced peeled cored apples (about 10) .
  • 2 tbsps lemon juice .
  • 1/4 c slivered almonds .
  • 1 c packed brown sugar .
  • 2 c all-purpose flour .
  • 1 tsp grated nutmeg .
  • 2 tbsps powdered sugar .
  • 1 c cold butter, cubed

Directions
  • Step #1 Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step #2 Place 10-inch (3 L) springform pan in centre of large piece of heavy-duty foil wrap; press up around pan.
  • Step #3 Set aside.
  • Step #4 In bowl, whisk flour with brown sugar.
  • Step #5 Using pastry mixer or 2 knives, cut in butter until in pea-size pieces.
  • Step #6 Press three-quarters over bottom & up side of prepared pan.
  • Step #7 Stir almonds into remaining crumb mixture; set aside.
  • Step #8 In bowl, lemon juice & nutmeg; spread over pastry, toss apples, pressing carefully.
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top with remaining crumb mixture.
  • Step #10 Bake in centre of 350°F (180°C) oven until golden & apples are tender, 1-1/2 hrs.
  • Step #11 Run knife around edge; let cool in pan on rack.
  • Step #12 Dust with powdered sugar.
