Cheddar-apple Galette Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg .
  • 1/3 c apple juice .
  • 1 1/2 c shredded sharp cheddar cheese .
  • 1/3 c sugar .
  • 1 egg yolk, lightly beaten with 1 tbsp water .
  • 1 (11 oz) box pie crust mix .
  • 2 tbsps cornstarch .
  • 3 golden delicious apples, peeled, cored & thinly sliced

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat oven to 400°F.
  • Step #2 In large bowl, toss together piecrust mix, with a fork, 1/2 c of the cheese & the apple juice; shape into a ball.
  • Step #3 Roll out on a floured surface to 14-inch circle.
  • Step #4 Roll pastry back onto rolling pin; unroll onto a large baking sheet.
  • Step #5 In a large bowl, apples, sugar, toss together 1/2 c of the shredded cheddar, cornstarch & nutmeg.
  • Step #6 Set aside.
  • Step #7 Sprinkle top remaining 1/2 c cheddar cheese onto center of crust, leaving a 3-inch border.
  • Step #8 Mound apple mixture on top of cheese.
  • Step #9 Fold edge of crust up & partway over filling.
  • Step #10 Brush crust with egg yolk/water mixture.
  • Step #11 Bake 35-40 mins until crust is lightly browned & apples are tender.
  • Step #12 Cut into wedgest & serve warm.
