Norwegian Meatballs With Gjetost Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tsp salt .
  • Gjetost sauce .
  • 3/4 c light cream .
  • 2 eggs .
  • 1/2 c chicken broth .
  • 2 tbsps sliced parsley or fresh dill .
  • 3/4 c sour cream .
  • 2 lbs ground beef .
  • 1/2 tsp pepper .
  • 2 tbsps butter .
  • 1 c milk or broth .
  • 1/2 c flour or fine dry breadcrumbs .
  • 1 c shredded gjetost cheese .
  • 2 tbsps flour

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix vigorously to mix (by hand or electric mixer) all the ingredients above.
  • Step #2 Shape into 3/4 inch meatballs with moistened hands.
  • Step #3 Pour 2 tbsps oil in a frying pan.
  • Step #4 Place over med-heat/flame & add meatballs.
  • Step #5 Cook, shaking carefully to turn meatballs, about 10 mins for the meatballs.
  • Step #6 Remove as they brown.
  • Step #7 For Gjetost sauce: Remove as much oil from the pan as possible & mix in butter & flour.
  • Step #8 Remove from heat & mix in light cream.
  • Step #9 Add chicken broth, bring to boil, stirring & cooking until thickened.
  • Step #10 Mix in Gjetost cheese.
  • Step #11 Turn heat low.
  • Step #12 Blend some of the sauce into sour cream, then return sour cream to sauce.
  • Step #13 Add sliced parsley or fresh dill.
  • Step #14 Re-add meatballs & let simmer until heated through.
  • Step #15 Serve with cooked rice or potatoes.
