9 oz semisweet chocolate, melted & cooled to lukewarm .
1 tsp vanilla extract .
2 tbsps milk .
2 1/4 c sifted powdered sugar .
1 1/2 c unsalted butter, softened
Directions
Step #1 Note: to melt the chocolate, place this in a double boiler over simmering water on low heat for 5-10 mins; stir every once in awhile until the chocolate is completely smooth & no pieces remain; remove this from heat & let cool 5-15 mins or until lukewarm.
Step #2 To make the buttercream: In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter using an electric mixer on MEDIUM speed for about 3 mins or until creamy.
Step #3 Add the milk carefully & beat until smooth.
Step #4 Add the melted chocolate & beat well for 2 mins.
Step #5 Add the vanilla & beat for 3 mins.
Step #6 Gradually add in the sugar & beat on LOW speed until creamy & of desired consistency.
Step #7 **For icing a 3-layer cake use the following measurements: 2 c unsalted butter, 12 oz semisweet chocolate, 3 tbsps milk, 1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract, 3 c sifted powdered sugar.
