Tomato French Bread Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c milk .
  • salt & pepper (to taste) .
  • 1/3 c grated parmesan cheese .
  • 3 tbsps flour .
  • 1/3 c sliced onions .
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced .
  • 1 tsp dried basil .
  • 1 tsp garlic powder .
  • 1 tsp dried parsley .
  • 2 c shredded mozzarella cheese .
  • 14 slices French bread, sliced 1/2 inch thick .
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper .
  • 1 lb ground beef .
  • 3/4 tsp salt .
  • 3 tbsps butter .
  • 3 tsps olive oil, divided .
  • 4 large tomatoes, sliced 1/2 inch thick

Directions
  • Step #1 In a skillet, brown lightly salted & peppered ground beef, onion & garlic; drain & set aside.
  • Step #2 Toast bread & line the bottom of an ungreased 13 x 9 baking dish with 10 slices.
  • Step #3 Top with half of the meat mixture & half of the tomatoes.
  • Step #4 Combine seasonings & sprinkle half over tomatoes.
  • Step #5 Drizzle with 1 1/2 tsps olive oil.
  • Step #6 Crumble remaining bread over top.
  • Step #7 Repeat layers of meat, tomatoes, seasonings & oil.
  • Step #8 In a saucepan over med-heat/flame, melt the butter.
  • Step #9 Stir in flour.
  • Step #10 Gradually stir in the milk & bring to a boil.
  • Step #11 Cook & stir until thick & bubbly, about 2 mins.
  • Step #12 Remove from the heat & stir in the Parmesan.
  • Step #13 Pour over casserole.
  • Step #14 Top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Step #15 Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 40 mins or until bubbly & cheese is golden brown.
