Basic Easy Butter Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c caster sugar .
  • 2 c self-raising flour, sifted .
  • 125 g butter or margarine .
  • 1/2 c milk .
  • 2 eggs .
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

Directions
  • Step #1 Cream butter & sugar until light & fluffy.
  • Step #2 Add eggs one at a t ime beating well after each addition.
  • Step #3 Add vanilla essence.
  • Step #4 Beat.
  • Step #5 Fold flour into creamed mixture alternating with milk, beginning & ending with flour.
  • Step #6 Spoon into greased 20cm square cake tin.
  • Step #7 Bake in moderate oven (180 degrees C) for 35 to 40 mins until skewer inserted into centre comes out clean.
  • Step #8 Allow to cool in tin 5 mins before turning out.
  • Step #9 Cool completely before icing.
