Stoofvlees (belgian Beef Stew) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 750 g stewing beef .
  • 1 tbsp margarine or butter .
  • 750 ml brown beer .
  • 50 g chocolate .
  • 2 slices peperkoek or bread .
  • 1 tbsp mustard .
  • pepper .
  • 1 onion, sliced .
  • 1 bay leaf .
  • salt .
  • 2 tbsps brown sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Glaze the onion in margarine In a large-ish skillet.
  • Step #2 Add the beef & cook this until it has browned.
  • Step #3 Add all of the beer, the beef, the chocolate & the bay leaf.
  • Step #4 Spread the mustard onto the slices of peperkoek or bread & place this in top of the meat.
  • Step #5 Add salt & pepper to your taste.
  • Step #6 Leave to cook on low heat for at least 1 1/2 hrs, but the longer it cooks the better it tastes, stir from time to time preventing it to burn.
  • Step #7 The sauce should have a pretty thick consistency.
  • Step #8 The leftovers of this recipe can be frozen or the recipe can easily be doubled.
