Chocolate Thumbprints Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 1/2 c confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsps milk
  • 1 tbsp butter, softened
  • 26 milk chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped
  • 1 c finely sliced walnuts
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsps milk
  • 2/3 c white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 c unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions
  • Step #1 Beat 1/2 c butter or margarine, white sugar, egg yolk, 2 tbsps milk & 1 tsp vanilla until light & fluffy.
  • Step #2 Combine flour, cocoa & salt; slowly add to butter mixture.
  • Step #3 Cover & chill 1 hr or until firm enough to roll this into balls.
  • Step #4 Meanwhile, in a small bowl, lightly beat egg white.
  • Step #5 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Step #6 Shape dough into 1 inch balls; dip in egg white, then roll in nuts.
  • Step #7 Place on greased baking sheets.
  • Step #8 Make an indentation with thumb in center of each cookie.
  • Step #9 Bake for 10-12 mins or until center is set.
  • Step #10 To Make the Filling: In a small bowl, mix 1/2 c confectioner's sugar, 1 tbsp of butter or margarine, 2 tsps of milk & 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract.
  • Step #11 Mix until smooth.
  • Step #12 Spoon 1/4 tsp of the filling into each warm cookie; carefully press a chocolate kiss (unwrapped) in the center.
  • Step #13 Carefully remove this from baking sheet to wire racks to cool.
