Almond Torta Recipe

Ingredients
  • 6 egg whites .
  • 1/4 tsp salt .
  • 2/3 c flour .
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract .
  • 3 tbsps Amaretto .
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar .
  • 6 egg yolks .
  • 1 1/2 c finely ground almonds .
  • whipped cream .
  • 1/3 c sugar .
  • strawberries (fresh or unsweetened frozen) .
  • 1/3 c sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 325F F.
  • Step #2 Butter & flour a 10 inch bundt pan.
  • Step #3 Stir together the almonds, flour & salt.
  • Step #4 Set aside.
  • Step #5 Beat the egg yolks at high speed using an electric mixer for about 6 mins or until they are thick & lightly colored.
  • Step #6 Add the Amaretto & vanilla.
  • Step #7 Gradually add 1/3 c sugar, beating until it is dissolved.
  • Step #8 Set this mixture aside.
  • Step #9 Wash & dry the beaters thoroughly.
  • Step #10 In a large bowl, mix the egg whites & cream of tartar & beat until soft peaks form.
  • Step #11 Gradually add 1/3 c sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.
  • Step #12 Gently fold the egg yolk mixture into the whites.
  • Step #13 Then carefully fold in the flour mixture, about 1/3 at a time.
  • Step #14 Pour the batter into the bundt pan & bake for 45-55 mins or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Step #15 Invert the pan onto a plate.
  • Step #16 After 30 mins, loosen the sides of the cake from the pan & remove the pan.
  • Step #17 Serve topped with strawberries & whipped cream.
