Sweet And Sour Beef For A Crowd! Recipe

Ingredients
  • 5 c water .
  • 1 1/4 c red wine vinegar .
  • pepper (can use regular salt) .
  • 3 1/2 c ketchup .
  • 5 medium onions, sliced .
  • 2-3 tbsps fresh minced garlic (optional) .
  • 5 tbsps worcestershire sauce .
  • seasoning salt .
  • 8-10 lbs sirloin or round beef, cut into about 2-inch strips (cut the beef while still semi-frozen, it is much easier) .
  • oil (for frying) .
  • 1 1/4 c brown sugar, firmly packed .
  • 1 c flour

Directions
  • Step #1 Dredge the beef strips in flour, salt & pepper In a large-ish Dutch oven.
  • Step #2 Brown In a large-ish skillet, working in batches.
  • Step #3 In a saucepan mix water, brown sugar, vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion, garlic (if using) seasoning salt & pepper.
  • Step #4 Bring to a boil, reduce heat & let simmer on low heat, covered for about 10 mins.
  • Step #5 Pour over the beef strips & cook on low heat for about 1-1/2 - 2 hrs, or until the beef is desired tenderness, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #6 **NOTE** If you are serving this from your crockpot, set the temperature to low as the beef will dry out if overcooked.
