Ingredients
  • 1 c heavy cream .
  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, potatoes (baking, about 4) .
  • 1 1/4 tsps salt .
  • 1 1/2 tsps juniper berries (available in the spice section of some supermarkets) .
  • 3/8 c unsalted butter, melted .
  • 3/4 tsp black pepper

Directions
  • Step #1 Put oven rack in middle position & preheat your trusty oven to 375°F.
  • Step #2 Finely grind juniper berries in grinder.
  • Step #3 Whisk together cream, salt, butter, 1 1/4 tsps ground juniper (discard remainder), & pepper In a large-ish bowl until mixd.
  • Step #4 Peel potatoes & cut into 1/8-inch-thick slices.
  • Step #5 Fold potato slices into cream mixture & transfer to baking dish, spreading evenly.
  • Step #6 Cover up tightly with foil wrap & bake this until potatoes are very tender, 50 mins to 1 hr.
  • Step #7 Preheat broiler.
  • Step #8 Remove foil wrap & broil potatoes 2 to 3 inches from heat until golden, about 6 mins.
  • Step #9 Let stand 10 mins before serving.
