Israeli Brown Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp dark brown sugar .
  • 3-4 c unbleached white flour .
  • 1/3 c whole wheat flour .
  • 1 (1/4 oz) package yeast .
  • 1 1/2 c warm water (110 F) .
  • 1/4 c rye flour .
  • 1 tsp salt .
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix yeast, water, salt, sugar, & oil in large bowl.
  • Step #2 Let rest about 5-10 min until bubbly.
  • Step #3 Add the flour to the bowl & mix.
  • Step #4 Kneed dough 4-8 mins until smooth & satiny (adding flour as necessary to prevent sticking).
  • Step #5 Let rise covered in oiled bowl for 1 hr until doubled.
  • Step #6 Punch dough down, shape into a ball & place this in a greased 8" cake pan.
  • Step #7 Let rise covered 30-40 more mins until almost doubled.
  • Step #8 Place in preheated 375 F oven for 35-45 mins until top is brown.
  • Step #9 Let cool 20 min before slicing.
