Spicy Jamaican Meat Pies With Island Salsa Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 jalapeno chile, minced .
  • 4 tsps curry powder .
  • 1/4 c water .
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric .
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme leaves .
  • salsa .
  • 1 lb lean ground beef .
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg .
  • 1 (15 1/4 oz) can tropical mixed fruit, coarsely sliced drained reserving 1 table. juice .
  • 1/2 c sliced onions .
  • 1/8 tsp ground red pepper (cayenne) .
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced .
  • 1/4 c Progresso Plain Bread Crumbs .
  • 1 c old el paso thick & chunky salsa .
  • 2 (8 oz) Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls .
  • salt, to tase .
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Step #2 In large skillet, mix ground beef, onion, chile & garlic.
  • Step #3 Cook over med to high heat until beef is thoroughly cooked; stirring frequently; then drain fat.
  • Step #4 Add curry powder, thyme, turmeric, pepper, grnd red pepper & salt; mix well.
  • Step #5 Add bread crumbs & water; stir until thickened.
  • Step #6 Separate dough into 8 rectangles, firmly press perforations to seal.
  • Step #7 Place 2 heaping tbsps of meat mixture on long half of a rectangle.
  • Step #8 Fold dough over filling & press edges to seal.
  • Step #9 Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Step #10 Bake at 375F for 15 to 20 mins or until golden brown.
  • Step #11 Meanwhile, in medium bowl, mix all salsa ingredients; mix well.
  • Step #12 Serve with meat pies.
