Apple Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c sugar .
  • 2/3 c milk .
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon .
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon .
  • 3/4 c shortening .
  • 3 c cooking apples, shredded & peeled .
  • 1/4 c butter .
  • 2 c water .
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 1/4 c sugar .
  • 2 c flour .
  • 2 tsps baking powder

Directions
  • Step #1 For sauce~In a large saucepan, the water, mix 2 c sugar, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, butter, & nutmeg.
  • Step #2 Bring to boiling & boil for 5 mins; set aside (should have about 2 c sauce).
  • Step #3 For dough~In a large mixing bowl, baking powder, mix flour, & salt.
  • Step #4 Using a pastry mixer, cut in shortening until pea size.
  • Step #5 Make well in center.
  • Step #6 Add milk all at once.
  • Step #7 Stir just until moistened.
  • Step #8 Knead dough on a lightly floured surface 10 to 12 strokes or until nearly smooth.
  • Step #9 Roll out to 12x10 inch rectangle.
  • Step #10 For filling~Combine 1/4 c sugar & 1/2 tsp cinnamon; set aside.
  • Step #11 Sprinkle top apples evenly over dough.
  • Step #12 Sprinkle top with sugar mixture.
  • Step #13 Roll dough into spiral, starting from a long side.
  • Step #14 Pinch seam to seal.
  • Step #15 Cut into twelve 1 inch thick pieces.
  • Step #16 Place in 13x9 baking pan.
  • Step #17 Pour sauce over dumplings.
  • Step #18 Bake in a 350º oven about 50 mins or until golden.
