Bonnach (celtic Bread) From Canada Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c white sugar .
  • 1/2 c currants .
  • 4 c flour .
  • 2 tsps salt .
  • 1 1/2 c milk .
  • 1/2 c shortening .
  • 8 tsps baking powder

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine flour, baking powder, salt & sugar.
  • Step #2 Work in shortening as for pastry.
  • Step #3 Add currants.
  • Step #4 Moisten with milk, making a soft dough.
  • Step #5 Knead 10 seconds.
  • Step #6 Pat out on a greased cookie sheet, to a thickness of a 1/2 inch.
  • Step #7 Preheat oven to 375°F & bake for 25 mins.
  • Step #8 Serve warm with butter.
