Very Vanilla French Toast Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c buttermilk .
  • 8 slices thick bread .
  • 1 egg .
  • 2 tsps butter or margarine .
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract .
  • 1 (3 oz) package vanilla pudding mix .
  • powdered sugar, if desired .
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda .
  • 1/2 c butter or margarine .
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup .
  • Buttermilk Syrup .
  • 1 c milk .
  • 1 c sugar .
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions
  • Step #1 For syrup, melt butter in saucepan over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #2 Add buttermilk, corn syrup, & sugar.
  • Step #3 Stir & bring to a boil.
  • Step #4 Cook, stirring constantly for 1 min.
  • Step #5 Remove from heat; add vanilla & baking soda.
  • Step #6 Syrup will be foamy.
  • Step #7 Let stand for 5-10 mins.
  • Step #8 Meanwhile, pudding mix, in a shallow dish, egg, whisk together milk, & cinnamon for 2 mins or until well mixed.
  • Step #9 Melt butter on hot griddle or in a skillet.
  • Step #10 Dip bread in mixture, coating both sides.
  • Step #11 Cook over heat for 2-4 mins on each side or until golden brown.
  • Step #12 Serve with syrup & powdered sugar or with fresh fruit & whipped cream.
  • Step #13 Store leftover syrup in refrigerator.
