Ingredients
  • Custard .
  • 1 large banana (optional) .
  • 3 tbsps sugar .
  • raspberry jam .
  • 1 1/2 c heavy cream .
  • 1/2 pint heavy cream, whipped .
  • 5 egg yolks .
  • Topping .
  • 1 1/2 c raspberries .
  • 1/8-1/4 c sherry wine .
  • 1 1/2 tsps cornstarch .
  • 5 c broken pieces lbcake or sponge cakes .
  • Cake or Fruit Layer .
  • 1/4 c slivered almonds, lightly toasted

Directions
  • Step #1 Custard: Heat the cream in a small saucepan.
  • Step #2 Whisk the egg yolks, sugar & cornstarch together.
  • Step #3 When the cream is hot, out it into the bowl with the egg mixture, stirring constantly.
  • Step #4 Return the custard to the saucepan & stir on low heat until thickened.
  • Step #5 Do not let it boil.
  • Step #6 Remove from heat & cool.
  • Step #7 To assemble trifle: Spread the pieces of cake with a thin layer of jam.
  • Step #8 Put the pieces In a large-ish bowl (A trifle bowl if you have one).
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top the sherry & berries over the cake & stir carefully.
  • Step #10 Peel & thinly slice the banana.
  • Step #11 Stir it into the cake & berries carefully.
  • Step #12 Drizzle the custard over the top.
  • Step #13 Spread the whipped cream over the trifle.
  • Step #14 Sprinkle top almonds on top.
  • Step #15 Cover up & chill for at least 4 hrs before serving.
