1 (19 oz) can tomatoes, sliced (with juice, can use a can of sliced tomatoes) .
1-2 tbsp sliced fresh garlic (I use lots!) .
3-4 stalks celery, sliced .
salt & pepper .
1 (14 oz) can white kidney beans, drained .
3 c coarsley sliced cabbage (about one small head of cabbage)
Directions
Step #1 In a large Dutch oven or stockpot, cook bacon until crisp.
Step #2 Add in onion, garlic & celery; stir for 5-6 mins.
Step #3 Add in cabbage.
Step #4 Add in water, tomatoes (with juice) Tabasco sauce & tomato soup; bring to a boil, broth, reduce heat & let simmer covered for about 50-60 mins (adding in carrots about the last 30 mins of cooking time).
Step #5 Stir in beans & cooked shells; heat though for about 5 mins.
Step #6 Serve topped with Parmesan cheese.
Step #7 **NOTE** a few tsps of sugar may be added if desired, it really helps improve the flavor of the soup, but this is only optional.
