Country Fried Steaks Recipe

Ingredients
  • 5 tbsps all-purpose flour (divided) .
  • Gravy .
  • 4 beef cube steaks .
  • 1/2 tsp dried marjoram .
  • 1/4 c cornmeal .
  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine .
  • 2 tbsps all-purpose flour .
  • 1 1/2 c milk .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 1 egg white .
  • 1 tsp water .
  • 2 tbsps cooking oil (divided) .
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme .
  • 1/8 tsp pepper .
  • 1 tsp beef bouillon granules .
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine 3 tbsps flour, cornmeal, salt & pepper; set aside.
  • Step #2 Coat steaks with remaining flour.
  • Step #3 Beat egg white & water; dip steaks, then dredge in cornmeal mixture.
  • Step #4 In a skillet over medium high heat, cook two steaks in 1 tbsp oil for 5-7 mins on each side or until crisp, lightly browned & cooked as desired.
  • Step #5 Remove steaks & keep warm.
  • Step #6 Repeat with the remaining oil & steaks.
  • Step #7 Meanwhile, for gravy, melt butter in a saucepan; stir in the flour until well mixed.
  • Step #8 Gradually add milk; bring to a boil over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #9 Boil for two mins, stirring constantly; reduce heat to medium low.
  • Step #10 Add bouillon, thyme & pepper; simmer, marjoram, uncoved for 4-5 mins, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #11 Serve over steaks.
