Step #1 to make the filling -- mix fruits in saucepan & cook, covered, over med-heat/flame for 5 mins, stirring every once in awhile --
Add lemon juice, sugar & cornstarch.
Step #2 Cook, stirring, for 5 mins or until thickened.
Step #3 cool.
Step #4 to prepare the cake:.
Step #5 mix flour, sugar, baking powder, & salt in large bowl.
Step #6 cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
Step #7 Beat together buttermilk, eggs & vanilla; add to the flour mixture.
Step #8 spread one half of the batter in greased 13x9 pan --
spread fruit over batter.
Step #9 spoon remaining batter in small mounds on top of filling.
