County Fair Corn Dogs Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c all-purpose flour for dusting
  • 1/3 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsps corn oil
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 pinch ground cayenne pepper
  • 2/3 c cornmeal
  • 2 tbsps corn flour (optional)
  • 10 beef frankfurters

Directions
  • Step #1 Insert skewers into frankfurters & dust with flour; set aside.
  • Step #2 To Make Batter: In a large bowl mix the cornmeal, egg, salt, cayenne pepper, 1/3 c flour, corn flour, 2 tbsps oil & water.
  • Step #3 Whisk all together.
  • Step #4 Heat 1 quart oil in a large skillet over high heat (to about 375 degrees F, 190 degrees C).
  • Step #5 Roll or dip franks in batter, then fry until lightly browned.
  • Step #6 Drain on paper toweling & serve.
