Oma's Boterkoek (dutch Buttercake) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder .
  • 1 1/2 c flour .
  • 2/3 c butter or margarine or half-and-half .
  • 1 1/2 tsps almond extract .
  • sliced almonds, for garnish (optional) .
  • 1 c sugar .
  • 1 egg, beaten (reserve 1 tsp)

Directions
  • Step #1 In medium bowl, mix together butter, sugar & almond extract.
  • Step #2 Add beaten egg except for 1 tsp.
  • Step #3 Sift flour & baking powder, & add to bowl, mixing with wet ingredients.
  • Step #4 Put dough in greased 9 inch pie plate.
  • Step #5 Mix the reserved 1 tsp of beaten egg with 1 tsp of water, & brush over dough.
  • Step #6 Sprinkle top with sliced almonds, if desired.
  • Step #7 (My Oma always used the almonds, it looks pretty & adds a nice touch!).
  • Step #8 Bake at 350 degress for 25-30 mins or until done (firm to the touch).
