Danish Kringle Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c finely sliced pecans or walnuts
  • 1/2 c warm milk (110 to 115 degrees F)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsps sliced pecans or walnuts
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • GLAZE:
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c warm water (105 degrees to 115 degrees)
  • FILLING:
  • 1 c confectioners' sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 c packed brown sugar
  • 4 tsps water
  • 1/2 c cold butter
  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 1 (.25 oz) package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, sugar & salt; cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  • Step #2 Dissolve yeast in warm water; stir in theto flour mixture with warm milk & egg.
  • Step #3 Beat until smooth (dough will be very soft).
  • Step #4 Cover & put in the fridge at least 2 hrs but not more than 24 hrs.
  • Step #5 Punch dough down.
  • Step #6 Divide dough in half; put in the fridge one half.
  • Step #7 On a well-floured surface, roll remaining half into a 15-in.
  • Step #8 x 6-in.
  • Step #9 rectangle.
  • Step #10 Combine filling ingredients.
  • Step #11 Spread half of the filling down center of rectangle in a 2-in.
  • Step #12 strip.
  • Step #13 Fold sides of dough over filling; overlapping 1-1/2-in.
  • Step #14 ; pinch edges to seal.
  • Step #15 Shape into an oval; pinch ends together.
  • Step #16 Place seam side down on a greased 15-in.
  • Step #17 x 10-in.
  • Step #18 x 1-in.
  • Step #19 baking pan.
  • Step #20 Repeat with remaining dough & filling.
  • Step #21 Cover & let rise in a warm place for 30 mins.
  • Step #22 Bake at 375 degrees F for 20-25 mins or until golden brown.
  • Step #23 Cool for 15 mins.
  • Step #24 Combine confectioners' sugar, water & vanilla; spread over the kringles.
  • Step #25 Sprinkle top with nuts.
