The Great Rock & Roll Pasty Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced .
  • 1 1/3 c Crisco shortening .
  • Crust .
  • 1 tsp black pepper .
  • Filling .
  • 1 small rutabaga .
  • 1 lb ground pork .
  • 4 medium potatoes .
  • 3 medium white onions .
  • 5 lbs ground chuck .
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt .
  • 1 tsp salt .
  • 3 c flour

Directions
  • Step #1 (Crust)Cut the shortening into the salt & flour until it has the texture of cornmeal.
  • Step #2 (You should use a pastry cutter, available at most grocery stores.
  • Step #3 (Crust)Add ice water 1 tbsp at a time until the mix is hold together.
  • Step #4 Don't over mix cus' the crust will get tough.
  • Step #5 Be careful, add water slowly.
  • Step #6 It is easy to add but hard to get it out! Set it aside.
  • Step #7 Peel & dice the vegetables.
  • Step #8 Put In a large-ish bowl & mix with the meat.
  • Step #9 Mix in the salt & pepper as well.
  • Step #10 Roll out the crust on a lightly floured surface (like a pie crust), make an oval.
  • Step #11 Put about 1 lb of filling on 1/2 of the crust.
  • Step #12 With a wet finger make a line of moisture around the filling.
  • Step #13 Flip the other half of the crust over the filling & press it down over the line of moist dough & crimp the edges.
  • Step #14 Poke the crust 5 times with a fork & place it on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Step #15 Bake for 20 mins at 450 degrees F.
  • Step #16 Reduce heat to 350 degrees F & bake for forty more mins.
  • Step #17 Let them cool for about 15-20 mins on the sheet before eating.
  • Step #18 Serve with ketchup, butter, bbq sauce, hot sauce, or your favorite condiment.
