Potato And Sausage In Gravy Recipe

Ingredients
  • 7 medium potatoes .
  • salt .
  • 2 c water (or more) .
  • 1 large onion .
  • pepper .
  • 2 lbs raw link sausage

Directions
  • Step #1 Use raw link sausage- the kind that is in a casing- usually about 12" long & attached together to make an oval shape.
  • Step #2 Any type is fine- beef, game, pork, mixed etc.
  • Step #3 Brown the raw sausage over medium high heat in a little oil to prevent sticking.
  • Step #4 Watch carefully so it does not burn.
  • Step #5 Reduce heat if necessary.
  • Step #6 While sausage is browning slice onions into rings or about 1/4" think.
  • Step #7 You can dice or chop if you prefer.
  • Step #8 Also peel & cut potatoes into 1"-2" pieces.
  • Step #9 The peel can be left on if desired.
  • Step #10 Cook sausage until brown on both sides.
  • Step #11 do not worry if about whether it is cooked through.
  • Step #12 It will continue to cook in the remaining steps.
  • Step #13 Add sliced onion when browning second side of sausage.
  • Step #14 When sausage has browned on both sides add water, potatoes, salt & pepper.
  • Step #15 Reduce heat to medium or medium low.
  • Step #16 Cook until potatoes are tender stirring frequently & adding more water if needed.
  • Step #17 Cover up if desired to retain steam & heat & prevent water from evaporating.
  • Step #18 The potatoes will thicken the juices & water & make it's own gravy.
  • Step #19 Taste for seasoning, adding more if desired.
