Baked Vidalia Onion Dip Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce
  • 3 large Vidalia onions, coarsely sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 c (8 oz) shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 (8-oz) can sliced water chestnuts, drained & sliced
  • 1/4 c dry white wine
  • 2 tbsps butter or margarine

Directions
  • Step #1 Melt butter In a large-ish skillet over medium-high heat; add onion, & sauté 10 mins or until tender.
  • Step #2 Stir together shredded Swiss cheese & next 5 ingredients; stir in the onion, mixing well.
  • Step #3 Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.
  • Step #4 Bake at 375° for 25 mins, & let this stand 10 mins.
  • Step #5 Serve with tortilla chips or crackers.
  • Step #6 To lighten: Substitute vegetable cooking spray for butter; substitute reduced-fat Swiss cheese & light mayonnaise.
