Ingredients

1/2 c sour cream
2 1/2 c dates, pitted & sliced
3/4 c packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c shortening
1 c walnut halves
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 c all-purpose flour

Directions

Step #1 Pre-heat oven to 400F degrees F (205 degrees C).
Step #2 Lightly grease two baking sheets.
Step #3 Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda & salt & set aside.
Step #4 In a large bowl, cream together shortening & brown sugar.
Step #5 Beat in the egg & the sour cream.
Step #6 Gradually mix in flour mixture.
Step #7 Fold in dates.
Step #8 Drop dough by tspfuls 1-1/2 inches apart onto baking sheets.
Step #9 Press a walnut half into the center of each cookie.
Step #10 Bake for 8-10 mins until lightly colored.
Step #11 Cool cookies on wire racks.
